This classroom action research aimed to improve seventh-grade students’ ability to identify the intrinsic elements of short stories through the use of educational short films at SMP Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. The study was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Thirty students participated in the research. The instructional action used an educational short film as a stimulus, followed by short story reading, group discussion, and guided worksheets to identify intrinsic elements (theme, characters/characterization, plot, setting, point of view, and message) supported by textual evidence. Data were collected through achievement tests/tasks at the end of each cycle and observation sheets of student learning activities. The results indicated consistent improvement in learning outcomes: the mean score increased from 62.0 (pre-cycle) to 71.2 (Cycle I) and 81.5 (Cycle II), and classical mastery reached 86.7% in Cycle II.
