Abstract

This study aimed to improve ninth-grade students’ mathematics learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 1 Batang Kuis through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model on the topic of Ratio and Scale. The research employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 30 students, with a minimum mastery criterion (KKM) of 70. Data were collected using learning achievement tests administered at the end of each cycle and classroom observation sheets to document students’ learning activities. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used to examine changes in mean scores and classical mastery, while qualitative descriptive analysis was applied to interpret shifts in student engagement during the learning process. The findings indicate continuous improvement from the pre-action stage to Cycle I and Cycle II. The mean score increased from 63.1 to 70.8 and 80.6, respectively. Classical mastery improved from 40.0% to 63.3% and reached 86.7% in Cycle II. Therefore, Discovery Learning was effective in enhancing students’ achievement and classroom participation.
